🧺 Lint screen: 4 things to check every day after the dryer finishes its cycle

Lint is highly flammable and builds up in the dryer and exhaust duct, reducing airflow and potentially causing the machine to overheat. US data on home dryer fires from the USFA and NFPA agree that the leading cause is failure to clean (34% and 32% respectively). These figures come from homes, not commercial laundries, but they are a good reason for laundries to make cleaning a routine.

Checklist after the dryer finishes its cycle, based on the daily maintenance schedule in one commercial dryer manufacturer's manual
1. Empty the lint compartment and clean the lint screen every day
2. Check that the screen is not torn or ripped, and replace it immediately if damaged
3. Check that the screen covers the opening completely so lint cannot escape into the exhaust duct
4. Wipe lint off the temperature sensor, because lint build-up causes the machine to overheat

The right procedure and frequency may differ by model, so follow your machine's manual.
