Wax the ironer chest regularly so linen glides through without sticking

🔧 Wax the ironer chest regularly for smooth-flowing linen and a longer life for the drive system and roll padding
Limescale, detergent and starch building up on the ironer chest stop linen from gliding smoothly. The added friction makes the drive system and roll padding wear faster than they should. According to one ironer manufacturer's manual, periodic cleaning and waxing is a task laundry owners should not skip.
Steps recommended in the manual
1. First clean limescale, detergent and starch off the ironer chest
2. Apply wax across the full width of the chest, not just part of it
3. Use only a little wax so the roll padding does not become too slippery
4. Feed cotton cloths through the machine to pick up any leftover wax
5. Set the frequency according to the machine type and workload; new machines and dusty rooms need it more often. Always follow your machine's manual
A US Navy training manual also notes that a well-waxed machine helps prevent linen from jamming in the ironer.
