💧 How much moisture should linen have before it goes into the ironer? The figure is 15-50%
Should linen going into the ironer be completely dry or still damp?
A flatwork ironing manual from one ironer manufacturer states that the right residual moisture for ironing is about 15-50%, depending on the size and model of the ironer, the weight of the linen, the roll speed and the finish required. Starched linen needs at least 38-40% moisture, because below 38% the starch will come off in the dryer. Up to the 50% ceiling, the damper the linen, the better the ironed result, but ironing will be slower. Linen that is too dry can also be one cause of creasing. So ask your supplier, or check your ironer's manual, for the target figure for each type of linen.
