🧺 Can you add fabric softener to linen headed for the ironer to make it softer? The ironer manual advises against it

Should washed linen that is going into a flatwork ironer be treated with fabric softener? The manual for IMAGE IRP and IRC flatwork ironers states that linen to be ironed should not be treated with fabric softener, because the softener builds up on the feed belts and the heated roll, causing poor performance and maintenance problems. The same manual also specifies a pH of 5.5-6.5 for linen to be ironed. So for loads going to the ironer, skip the fabric softener; for other models or setting details, follow the machine's manual.
