Test the finger guard every time before ironing

Do you test your ironer's finger guard before every start-up? 🔍

The IMAGE ironer manual requires the finger guard to be tested before every start-up, so owners should make it a routine step for their team:

1. Before every start-up, test the finger guard by pushing it towards the roll
2. The ironer must stop immediately when the guard is pushed
3. If the guard does not work, stop using the machine, lock it out and call a technician
4. The manual says to check every safety device at the start of each shift; if any device does not stop the machine immediately, take the machine out of service and notify the supervisor
5. Never clear a jam or misfeed while the machine is running, as the operator could be drawn in; stop the machine, switch off the power and wait for it to cool first

The manual also states that the finger guard is only a protective device, not a stop switch. Separately, safety rules in Washington State, USA, require flatwork ironers to have a safety bar or guard across the full front of the feed rolls that stops the machine when struck (this is US law, not Thai law).

Details may differ by model, so always follow the manual for the model you use. For questions about your ironer, the KHT team is happy to advise.
