💧 50-52% is the maximum water 100% cotton linen should retain after extraction

How wet is linen after extraction, and how can laundry owners tell whether their machines are extracting fully?

According to an article by a laundry consultant in the trade publication Laundry & Cleaning News in 2008, the way to measure it is to weigh one load. Here is how: weigh the wet linen as soon as it comes out of the extractor, then dry that same load completely without removing any pieces, and weigh it again. Use the weights to calculate: Residual moisture (%) = (wet weight − dry weight) ÷ dry weight × 100. In the article's example, 78 kg of wet linen that weighed 50 kg dry had 56% residual moisture. The benchmark given in the article is that 100% cotton linen should not retain more than about 50-52% water, and every washer should be tested at least once a month. Note that the article was written for industrial laundries, so also follow your machine's manual.
